Geologist Gary Henningsen recently joined our Wilsonville environmental team. We caught up with him about his work, his expertise, and other fun facts. Get to know our newest project manager!
What is your role at GeoDesign?
Geologist/Project Manager for Environmental Services.
How did you choose environmental consulting as a career?
In 1988 the Federal Government required that underground storage tanks (USTs) be either removed or updated to new standards. I started working in the environmental field in 1989 doing tank pulls and remediation/cleanup of impacts from USTs.
What do you find most rewarding about environmental consulting?
The variety of clients and projects I get to work on. Getting the No Further Action determination from regulators.
What are your specialized areas of expertise?
Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs, site investigations, risk-based closures, and remediation/management of impacted soil.
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
I was on the men’s gymnastics team in college.
What do you do when you’re not working (hobbies, etc.?)
I enjoy golf, biking, hiking, swimming, and kayaking.
What was the last book you read?
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
Favorite travel spot?
Most recently, Yachats, Oregon.
Least favorite food?
Dogs or cats?
