Shady Bridge in Roseburg,
Oregon, for Oregon Department of
Transportation
GeoDesign conducted geotechnical engineering
and seismic evaluation for the proposed
Shady Bridge. The project involves
replacement of the northbound South
Umpqua River bridge and the Interstate-5
bridge over Highway 99. In total,
the planned improvements extend over
a 1.5-mile section of Interstate-5
roadway encompassing the South Umpqua
River crossing, which includes a crossing
of the Southern Pacific Railroad; the
Oregon Highway 99 crossing; and ramps
and interchange roads associated with
Highway 99. The project included
characterization of a complex geological
setting (anticline) relative to specifying
several types of conventional and rock
socket deep foundation options.
